What is the difference between external and handheld camera?
When choosing how to record your skydive, you can select between two options: the external camera and the handheld camera. Both provide a wonderful memory of your experience, but each captures the story of the jump in its own way.
External camera
The external camera is mounted on the helmet of another skydiver who jumps together with you. During freefall, they fly right next to the tandem and move around you, capturing a broader view of the action. The footage shows the immense altitude, the blue sky, the sensation of speed, and your reactions from different angles. Such a video is dynamic, action-packed, and feels like watching a real adrenaline movie. The best part is that the camera also captures moments before the jump – smiles in the plane, the leap out of the door, and the dramatic parachute opening.
Handheld camera
The handheld camera is attached to the arm of the tandem instructor. It mainly records your face, expressions, and genuine reactions during freefall and under the open parachute. The video is more personal, showing your perspective in the moment, the joy of floating, and the excitement of landing. Due to its closeness, it captures emotions that the external camera cannot present in such an intimate way.
The best choice is the combination of both. The external cameraman provides spectacular aerial shots, while the handheld camera complements the story with details and a personal perspective. This way you get a complete memory – a film that shows both the magnitude of the jump and your genuine feelings you’ll want to relive again and again.
Photos
Both options are also available as photos. Instead of video, the instructor or cameraman prepares a series of shots of your jump – from preparations in the plane to freefall and landing. Of course, you can also choose a combination of video and photos, which ensures an even more complete memory of this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
